Mr. Newman - 7th - 8th Grade Science
Bio: Oscar Newman began teaching in Chicago Public Schools in 1997. He participated
in DePaul University’s Urban Teacher Corps in 1998-1999 and received his Master’s degree in 2001. He achieved National Board Certification in Early Adolescent Science in 2002 and renewed it in 2012.
In 2004, Mr. Newman was selected as Teacher in Residence for the Chicago Academy of Sciences’ Notebaert Nature Museum. There, he taught K-12 students, staffed the Teacher Leadership Center and designed teacher workshops. Mr. Newman remains committed to improving professional development opportunities for teachers as member of teacher
advisory boards for the Chicago Academy of Sciences and the Field Museum of Natural History.
Oscar Newman was the Lead Science Mentor for the Board of Education's National Board Mentoring program from 2008 – 2010, and he mentors middle school and high school candidates for National Board Certification in Early Adolescent and Adolescent & Young
Adult Science.
In 2006, Mr. Newman began working as a 7-8 grade science teacher at Chicago Academy Elementary School. Currently, he teaches 7 & 8 grade science, 8 grade math, and mentors the school's Environmental Science Club and the Zoology Club. He also participated in the AUSL Science Professional Learning Community Program from 2011 to present and will serve as a lead teacher for second-year participants this school year.
Oscar Newman is a proud father of a two year-old. He loves running, riding his bicycle, jazz, and traveling.

Mr. Wischnewsky - 7th & 8th Social Studies
Bio: Although Mr. Wischnewsky (Mr. W) is new to Chicago Academy, he is not new to
teaching. This year marks his tenth year in Chicago Public Schools.
Previously, he taught seventh grade math as well as high school English for many
years. He received a master’s degree in middle school math from DePaul
University and a bachelor’s in English from Northwestern University. He hopes
that his students will discover the beauty and usefulness of mathematics. On
Sunday afternoons, Mr. W is rooting for the only team that matters—The Bears!
